Who's who in PIL at Oxford

Oxford Law has a long and distinguished tradition in international law that dates back even further than the election of the first holder of the Chichele Professor of Public International Law in 1859.

History of International Law in Oxford

Oxford Law's international lawyers continue to play a leading role in pushing forward the boundaries of scholarship on global legal issues. They have written leading books in a range of areas of international law, and a number of Faculty members also have considerable experience in practice.

Academic PIL Visitors to Oxford

Professor Mark Weston Janis is a Visiting Fellow at the Law Faculty and a Fellow Commoner at The Queen's College, where he studied law as a Rhodes scholar. He has also been Reader in Law for the Faculty and a Law Fellow at Exeter College.

Violeta Moreno Lax is a Stipendiary Lecturer in Law at St Hilda's College and a Visiting Study Fellow at the University of Oxford’s Refugee Studies Centre.

Dr Irini Papanicolopulu is Assistant Professor of International Law at the University of Milano-Bicocca. Dr Papanicolopulu will be spending the next two years in Oxford as a Marie Curie Fellow in the Law Faculty. Irini was awarded a two year Marie Curie Fellowship by the European Commission to work on the Law of the Sea and Human Rights.

Jure Vidmar is an Anglo-German Fellow in the Institute of European and Comparative Law, Faculty of Law.
