International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA) Programme
September 2007
On 26th September 2007, Professor Vaughan Lowe, Dapo Akande and Dr Stefan Talmon (all members of the Oxford Public International Law Group) hosted and provided international law training to the inaugural set of candidates on the International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA) programme. ILFA's mission is to provide work experience in the top English law firms combined with training in international law and key legal practice skills to lawyers chosen on a competitive basis from across Africa. Accordingly, ILFA assists in providing placement in major City and international law firms for candidates drawn from African nations. The placements offer a curriculum for the candidates who rotate through a combination of practice areas as well as attending lectures on international law.
Professor Vaughan Lowe, who provided an "Overview of International Law", also taught on the "Law of the Sea". Dapo Akande (who is a member of ILFA's Advisory Committee) taught on the "Relationship between International Law and Domestic Law" while Dr Talmon taught on "Territorial Sovereignty and Land Boundaries".
