Outline of the LRMSP
This practical programme was designed to help new law students learn about the structure of legal resources and how to use them efficiently, and to ensure all students have an experience of mooting. All BA Jurisprudence students, including Senior Status students, are required to successfully complete the three units of the LRMSP during their first year:
- The Introductory unit, which comprises library induction in week 0, induction lectures on Monday of Week 1, and a one-hour hands-on class early in Michealmas term.
- The Advanced unit, which comprises reading through an online tutorial which is available anytime on the LRSMP website; a one-hour class on using electronic legal resources to be offered on both Thursday and Friday of Week 0, and early in first week of Trinity; and an online assessment based on the online tutorial and the class that can be done anytime from the beginning of Trinity until the end of Week 6 of Trinity.
- The Mooting unit, which takes place during Trinity Term, and comprises a lecture in week 3, a two-hour research class in week 4 or 5, and taking part in a moot in Week 7, as well as related requirements such as online submission of skeleton argument and list of authorities. Each student in a winning moot team wins a point for their College.
Diploma of Law students must complete the Introductory unit, attend the 'Common law resources for Diploma students' class in Michealmas Term, and successfully complete the library research exercise before the end of Michealmas.
Further information about this programme will be distributed in a timely fashion on the Faculty's email lists and on this site. If you have any questions about the LRMSP, please email Sandra Meredith (phone 2 71499).
